Kallang & Whampoa Estate

The area is most well known for being the location of the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the old National Stadium, and the upcoming Singapore Sports Hub that is slated to open in the year 2010. Singapore’s first airport was opened in the area in 1937 but replaced at another location due to increased air traffic demand. The airport terminal building is now occupied by the People’s Association’s headquarters.  

Kallang River, Singapore’s longest river, meanders through the area, and in turn gives selected flats picturesque waterfront views. The river is also a popular location for water sports. There is a wide variety of amenities here including food outlets, places of worship, schools and other neighbourhood shops serving the local community. Of note, the newly re-opened Leisure Park Kallang houses a large number of entertainment choices all under one roof. These include Singapore’s largest ice-skating rink, a bowling centre and a Cineplex, among others.

In addition to the existing Kallang MRT station and Boon Keng MRT station, the new Stadium MRT Station is due to open in the area in 2010.
