Tampines New Town

Tampines New Town is the largest residential area in the Singapore and is located in the Eastern region. It is bounded by the Tampines Expressway and Pan Island Expressway to the north, Changi Airport to the east, Bedok Canal to the south and Tampines Ave 10 to the West. The town obtained its name from the trees that used to grow in the area, namely “tampinis”. However, by the early 1980s, the “tampinis” tree faced near-extinction due to high demand for its strong timber.

Tampines New Town is a densely populated district with a population of about 216,000 people. In 1991, the town clinched the prestigious United Nations World Habitat Award in recognition of its efforts to resolve the housing situation and achieving an excellent housing standard. The town is endowed with a fine range of shopping, dining and leisure facilities. Its two main suburban shopping centres, Tampines Mall and Century Square, offer a wide selection of retail options, much to the convenience of its residents.

Residents looking to escape from busy Tampines Central can however stop by the Bedok Reservoir located nearby. The Reservoir has a splendid view and is the perfect place for a slow jog. For yet more sporting fun, head towards Tampines Swimming Complex, Tampines Stadium or Tampines Sports Hall.
