Yishun New Town

Yishun New Town is situated at the Northern Region of Singapore. It is bounded by Sungei Simpang Kiri to the north, Seletar to the east, Ang Mo Kio New Town to the south, Mandai to the west and Sembawang New Town to the northwest. It covers an area of about 2,108 ha, and encompasses the Lower Seletar Reservoir.

During the mid 19th century, gambier and pepper plantations flourished along the Seletar River in Yishun. However, these plantations were later replaced by the more profitable pineapple and rubber plantations during the latter part of the century. The word “Yishun” is derived from the name of a local pineapple and rubber magnate, Lim Nee Soon. 

Yishun New Town boasts a galore of entertainment, commercial and recreational facilities, such as libraries, a swimming complex and several community clubs. Northpoint Shopping Centre is Yishun’s main shopping destination, apart from other neighbourhood shopping haunts like Chong Pang City.

The Lower Seletar Reservoir is a pleasant place for leisurely strolls and a quick jog. Residents can also unwind at Seletar Country Club, relax at SAFRA clubhouse or immerse in a game of golf at Orchid Country Club.
